Tutorial video about Roughing and Finishing

Why you need roughing and finishing, how to program it

This video explains about Roughing and Finishing, and tells how to achieve that in DeskProto   (DP V5, 11 min)

CNC machining a new part often is done in two stages: first a roughing operation removes most excess material, next a finishing operation creates the final shape of the part. As for novice users it may not be clear why these two stages are used, this video explains why this is needed. It also shows how this is done in DeskProto.
A very old version of DeskProto is used(V5), the theory about roughing and finishing still is valid though.

Note that roughing and finishing can only be done in the paid editions of DeskProto: the free edition does not include roughing options (see the Comparison table). So this video applies to all paid editions of DeskProto (Entry, Expert and Multi-Axis). Though the options Smoothing contour and Skip the Ambient area are not present in the Entry edition.

Before you can use DeskProto you need to Download and install the software.
