Dear John Smith,
We are happy to send you this next new issue of the DeskProto newsletter, about
"CNC machining for non-machinists". We hope that you will enjoy reading.

DeskProto version 7.1 has been released !
![Two screenshots, showing Venus in a rectangular block and as simulation](../../images/dp71-venus-rect-block-newsl.png)
We are very happy to announce the release of DeskProto Version 7.1
After many months of beta testing, and
after fixing numerous small errors in the builds for
Linux, MacOS and
Windows, the new version now is ready. Most
important new feature is shown above: Simulation is now
also possible for rotation axis toolpaths.
This feature has been requested by many users.

Rectangular blocks for rotary machining
![Bottle model, mached from a rectangular block of wood](../../images/dp71-bottle-machined-rectblock-newsl.jpg)
A second important new feature is the support of rectangular blocks
for rotation axis machining (previous versions only offered cylinder
shaped blocks).
As you can see in the image above this is much more efficient:
previously for this block a complete cylinder volume would have
been machined, with the cutter machining just air part of the
time, the current version machines only the block.

Enhance your postprocessor: placeholders
![Screenshot showing the use of postprocessor placeholders.](../../images/dp71-postproc-placeholders-newsl.png)
A powerful new feature is the use of placeholders
in the postprocessor.
This provides a method to include project information in your NC
files: a feature that has been requested many times as well. The
image above shows how it works: the placeholder (for instance
"{PROJNAME}") in the NC file will be replaced by its value (in this
case the project name "Bottle").
You can find more information about this new
version on page New in V71.
And you can download the new version on the
Download page.

DeskProto widely used for custom insoles
![Collection of insoles created by Podo Canada](../../images/podoc-newsletter.jpg)
Over the past years DeskProto has become the standard CAM
program for many suppliers of orthotic insoles
worldwide. One of them is Podo Canada in Ottawa
(Canada). On the latest Gallery
page you can read all about the products and services that they
offer. Thanks for sharing !
This wide acceptance has been caused not only by the ease of
use and the quality of the toolpaths. Part of this success is due to
the easy integration in specialized
orthotic design software : the CAD program
can run DeskProto fully automated by calling it with some command
line parameters. So the actual end-user does not need to be
trained in using DeskProto.
