Dear John Smith,

We are happy to send you this next new issue of the DeskProto newsletter, about "CNC machining for non-machinists".  We hope that you will enjoy reading.

Machining a relief in wood New video: a relief of Silicon Valley The machined relief of Silicon valley Creating geographic relief models is a great application for DeskProto: based on a simple image file with gray values (a digital elevation model) you can easily create a scale model of your home area on your CNC machine. Except of course when you live in a flat country (like we do), as the resulting relief model then would not be really interesting.

Our tutorial video on this application already was more than 8 year old, so we created a new video. Featuring Silicon Valley, and of course using the current version of DeskProto. The height-map that we used is a Free Download: a great opportunity for anyone living there to create this nice relief. Feel free to share a photo of your result on the user forum.

Screenshot of the updater Setup Improvements for DeskProto V7.1 Vector data, wityh error and fixed. Releasing a new version of DeskProto is (despite beta-testing) always followed by some bug-reports. Like the bug in the DXF vector import shown in the image above: compare the red "e" (wrong) with the green "e" (correct).
In DeskProto you can simply check if you are running the latest build, via command "Check for Update" (Help menu). On our website you can find the latest build on the Build history page.

The latest V7.1 update even includes new functionality: for vector data DeskProto now also supports SVG files, as requested by several users.

Detail of a wooden handrail Gallery: curved stairwell handrail part of the hadrail being machined The latest Gallery project shows what a professional woodworker can achieve using DeskProto. This great wooden handrail has been created by Bietenholz + Müller in Wil (Switzerland). It is one long flowing curve, extending over four floors.
Visit the Gallery page to see the handrail in its full glory.

the Instgram logo Results achieved by hobbyist users Two horses and a violin model, machined in wood. More nice results can be found on our social media pages and on the DeskProto user forum. The two horses in the above image (created by Dark_Star, GB) have been shared on the User forum, and the violin model (created by Jack, NL) has been shared via Instagram. Follow us on Instagram to see more inspiring results!

Try for yourself and download the DeskProto Free edition from our website. To get started you can use the tutorials (both video and PDF) and the sample geometries.
This is all possible completely free of charge !

Best Regards,

Lex Lennings.
