Create a unique heart as Valentine's day gift.

For immediate release, Feb 2014.

Real ‘makers' of course create their own Valentine's gifts:
DeskProto helps to make a unique heart for your beloved one.

Utrecht (the Netherlands) -- Feb 11, 2014 -- With Valentine’s day coming up any maker is looking for some home made gift. You can of course use your 3D printer to create a unique gift in plastic. Still, for a long-lasting gift you can better use a CNC milling machine to carve in wood: a warm material that will cause your gift to be cherished for a long time.

A new Gallery project on the DeskProto website shows how to CNC machine a heart, in a video made by a DeskProto user. The video shows the heart machined in walnut wood, with a truly attractive result.

Heart STL file with engraved text
Engraving the name of your beloved one will make your gift truly unique.

"When we saw this video we decided to share this with all DeskProto users." says Lex Lennings, DeskProto sales manager. "By making the STL file available for download any owner of a hobby CNC machine can now machine a unique heart."

The gift can be made unique by engraving the name of your beloved one (or any other text) on the heart, which can be done by projecting a 2D text on the curved surface below. It is even possible to convert a picture to a relief and project that on the heart.

The video can be seen and the Valentine heart STL file can be downloaded at www.deskproto.com
There you can also find a free trial version of DeskProto, which is fully functional for 30 days. So it is possible to complete the project without even buying DeskProto.

About DeskProto

DeskProto by Delft Spline Systems is the 3D CAM program that has made CNC milling a competitive technology for Rapid Prototyping. The software can import STL files from any 3D CAD system, and can export NC program files suited for any 3/4/5-axis CNC milling machine. 2D CAM and bitmap machining are possible as well. Key feature is the ease of use: DeskProto is aimed at designers, not (as most other CAM software) at CAM specialists.
Despite its low-end price DeskProto contains many high-end features, like automatic feedrate reduction at high chiploads, collet collision check, full rotation axis support, the two-sided milling wizard, and much more (not all options are available in the Lite edition). Current users range from one-person design and model shops to multinational A-brand companies like Unilever, Lancôme, Sony-Ericsson and NASA.
